Tuition Individualised Learning Programme (TILP)

Equal Education partnered with four Virtual Schools in the West Midlands to pioneer the Tuition Individualised Learning Programme (TILP), a tutoring intervention focused on literacy to improve the educational outcomes for care-experienced children and young people.

Equal Education works with nominated teachers within schools to train them on working effectively with children in care and oversees the provision of one-to-one tuition over one academic year to improve literacy, writing and reading skills.

Student progress is measured using GL Assessments’ New Group Reading Test (NGRT) and assistive learning software provided by ReadingWise. In Year 1, 66% of pupils made progress with 44% making at least 2yrs+ Reading Age and 22% of pupils making between 4-14months progress. You can read more in this blog.

TILP has allowed individual teachers to make stronger links with a Pupil via Tutor sessions. TILP has enabled Tutors to develop their pastoral and SEMH skills.
